Review
“A great solid entry level MTB, that looks absolutely fantastic, with all the right pieces in all the right places. 2 thumbs up and big smiles all-around.”

The Merida Big.Trail 200 is an incredibly fun mountain bike that combines the simplicity of a hardtail with long travel excitement to create an All Mountain Bike that’s as at home on technical descents as it is climbing. The Big.Trail offers modern trail geometry, big 29″ wheels and long travel for a grippy, yet comfortable ride. Merida has designed the Big.Trail 200 to get the most out of a hardtail that is easy to set up, maintain and affordable. With the Big.Trail 200, you get an All Mountain Hardtail that practically replaces the need for a dual-suspension mountain bike, and, is more fun!
The Big.Trail’s lightweight alloy frame has a clean and simple look thanks to the internally routed cables and is perfectly paired with a Suntour XCM32 Coil Fork that offers 120mm travel and lockout for versatility: steep climbs, technical trails, or even the occasional commute! The modern trail geometry ensures that you can maintain control even when pushing your limit and yet still climb with ease thanks to the central seating position over the bottom bracket. While the 1×10 speed Shimano Deore drivetrain with remote actuated clutch allows you to ride aggressively on trails all day long without being concerned by your chain getting snagged. When you factor in the Tektro Hydraulic Disc brakes which are powerful enough to quickly bring you to a stop, and won’t fade after repeated braking, you’ll be confident to really send it and aggressively attack corners as you chase PBs. Finally, the inclusion of multiple mounting points for two bottles and hidden rack, fender and kickstand mounts means the Big.Trail 200 is just as capable out on the trails, as it is bike-packing or commuting.
The Big.Trail 200 is an amazing budget Hardtail Mountain Bike and is the entry point for the Big.Trail range. If you’re looking for a model that’s more comfortable jumping large gaps, then you should consider the Big.Trail 400. It offers a very similar ride, although it has a lighter fork with increased travel (140mm) and the added bonus of an awesome Merida COMP TR Dropper Seat Post. The Merida Big.Trail 200 is a bold and fun All Mountain Hardtail offering endless opportunities without a ridiculous price tag.
MODERN TRAIL GEOMETRY
The long reach, slack 65.5° head angle and steep seat angle place you directly over the bottom bracket. This results in a lower centre of gravity and ensures the BIG.TRAIL does exactly what you ask when you descend even when the trail is gnarly! Equally, this ensures that it maintains its impressive climbing ability.
VERSATILE
Long travel ensures the Big.Trail 200 is comfortable in all situations! The fork’s lockout and frame’s hidden rack, fender and kickstand mounts ensures the Big.Trail 200 has endless uses – no more need for multiple bikes!
BOOST TECHNOLOGY
The axle combination results in a stiffer and stronger wheel, increasing durability.
